He came into my life while I was volunteering for a Humane Group about 1/2 hour from where I live. Everyone at the shelter that knew me knew I wanted a Red Cat. One afternoon I just happened into the shelter. The adoption agent was there and told me she had a Red cat, but he wasn’t going anywhere as he was in final stages of renal failure. I took one look at the cat and told her they have a wrong RX.
I went in to see the cat at the time named Julius ( HUMM WRONG, not on my WATCH)!! AS I picked him up we automatically bonded!! I took him out so that I could feed the underweight Red cat by the name of Julius. I let him on the counter as I fixed his food and he just sat there watching everything I was doing. As I put the food down he gave me a meow thank you and just ate until he couldn’t eat anymore. Then I put him down so that he could sniff out his hiding spot, and relax away from all the cat that were beating him up.
This went on for about 3 months, 3 times a day to feed and play with Julius….most of the time was eating and sleeping on my lap while I talked with the dog offices who is stationed with the Humane Group. Then one day I went in the adoption agent and dog officer where their and I just walked in didn’t even say hi, just picked up Julius and went into the front room, told them both don’t stop me “RED” WAS COMING HOME and I walked out. I took Red to the Vet who found him and had him pull bloods again only to find out RED had an overactive Thyroid with slight renal failure. I got the meds and on my way to bring RED HOME….The vet got to know me on a first name basis and decided the RED needed a more regal name Hence “Mr. Red”.
This story could go on as I had my “Bubba” for the better part of 3-5 years I really did loose track, and as no papers were signed at the shelter we all decided that we had “a blond moment”…….Red was a comfort and joy to me. He went to camp with me (really). I helped a friend of mine who didn’t have enough Riding Instructors for the summer, and Red was the host of the camp!! If you wanted to be loved, this camp was the place if you were Mr. Red!!
Mr. Red was the second cat Iv taken as a rescue. You see I only take cats that are old to older and have medical issues, and I know will never get adopted out. They are kind, gentle, and want to love you more than you want to love them. and that in a nut shell is my Mr. Red. He was a fighter to the end. when they injected him in the tummy, he just would not give up,I held him until he asked to be put down, which I did, and I kept my hand on him all the time, so that he knew i was still there…Many tears were shed and still are. Finally they injected Mr. Red in the back vein, and yes he fought even then, growling, but alas, as I kept my hand over his little heart, I felt it beat slower and slower until it stopped.
My gallant little man. It took about 10 minutes before I could leave and everyone was so good about that. The only thing that really bothers me is I took Mr. Red to the MSPCA, as my vet was asking so much to put my loved one to sleep. I had to sign over rights to my Mr. Red before they would put him to sleep, and they lied to me. I was told he would be cremated and his remains would be buried on the MSPCA grounds.
I called a friend of mine up north in NH and asked him about something not even related to my cat, when he told me the MSPCA drops off their animals to him, he cremated them and sprinkles them in a garden in back of the building???? I do hope this is true, as I need to know my Red is happy and at peace and rest? I will be happy to talk with anyone about my little lover Mr. Red and his life as my time is short just now and have to finish my work. Mr. Red I love and miss you as much as I do my Dad….Remember we are meeting at Rainbow Bridge!!
With all my love,
Mr. Red |
