Pip by Elizabeth / Mommy

Pip, a baby rat (with lung congestion), came to me in January of this year via a friend. He and his brother chickabitty were the only long-term survivors of a litter of rats found in someone’s attic. They were both completely naked and pink and still had their umbilical cords attached to them. I grew fond of my delicate little babies very quickly. I nursed them both day and night–trying to save them. After about three weeks, Pip decided to wake me up during the night to let me know it was time for him to go. Naturally I cried, but felt honored to have shared in my tiny baby’s brief journey. On a happy note, his brother (chickabitty) is healthy, happy and still lives– And for that I am grateful.

Love,
Pip
