Sadie came into my life at the tender age of 8 weeks and became a wonderful companion. The Brittany spirit was with her from the very beginning. Friendly and fun loving, she brought joy to me each and every day. She had the most wonderful heart. Whenever my wife or I returned home and opened the garage door we were sure to be greeted with a wagging tail.
Going for walks, riding in the car, but most of all catching frisbees in the neighborhood park were things she enjoyed doing. She loved it when people came to our house. She was sure to greet them with a wagging tail and wet nose.
Unfortunately, she encountered numerous medical difficulties throughout her life. She overcame the removal of both of her lenses yet still was excited about catching the frisbee. Occasionally she would fail the grasp it out of the air, but those instances were rare. Later she developed pancreatic insufficiency and soon after that she was diagnosed with diabetes. She was handling that with grace and dignity and then the continuous coughing developed which was with her for over one year.
She slept a lot, but still retained that wonderful heart which is so characteristic of Brittany’s. The ravages of age were apparent, still she was not ready to go.
Suddenly she lost all interest in food and then I knew it was time to make that most difficult decision. The day we took our last trip to the vet was extremely difficult. The end came swiftly and peacefully and I know in my heart that it was the right time.
