July 1993 —- March 1999
Bullmastiff
Sadie came to me at 8 weeks of age weighing 16 pounds.
She was a beautiful Bullmastiff girl who stole my heart
from the very beginning. Though many people told me not
to get such a big dog a Bullmastiff would be too much for me
to handle a gentler dog never walked the face of the earth.
My boxer Cocoa accepted Sadie and grew to love her.
When my son and I moved across the state my two girls were
right there together in the back seat of the Toyota.
Sadie was twice the size of Cocoa but she never knew this.
She followed Cocoa learned from her and accepted
Cocoa’s role as her older sister.
The years went by.
Sadie grew to 110 pounds and though she was my big girl,
she was in many ways my child. Sadie and Cocoa gave me
countless laughs and brightened my life.
During hard times they were there to make me smile
if necessary ready at a moment’s notice to do something
goofy to get me to laugh. How I miss those days.
In March 1999 Cocoa’s heart gave out.
She died March 6th. Nine days later March 15th
Sadie died from cancer. My heart shattered and over the last year
I have mourned their loss. My comfort is knowing they are
still together Cocoa waiting there for Sadie who fought
a valiant fight with lymphoma.
As the one year anniversary of their deaths approaches
I grieve for my girls but I know in my heart how fortunate I
was that they were in my life. And I believe with all my heart
they watch over me everyday.
I love you my girls.
