Smokey was a black Nefilabcross(part black labrodor, part nefoundland retriever)who had been with me all of my life.My mom and dad got him when he was a puppy and had him until he was an old man.He has made a permanent mark in our hearts that is never to be erased.
My mother and father got smokey from the pound when he was only a puppy. They got him even before my older sister was born. 2 years after my sister was born they had me. We lived in a little house on decompsay street and were happy there but when they had my younger sister 3 years later we had to move. Smokey survived the move and was about 6 or 7 at the time of the move.
We would play with and love Smokey to pieces each and every day through all of the years we had him and when he got too old to play we would sit beside him and pet him for a while. When ever we left to go some where Smokey would sit and wait for us by the front door, even if we were gone for the whole day he would not budge from that spot. That is a memorable thing about Smokey and we all miss that.
We would leave his fur nice and long during the winter time and he would look more like a newfoundland retriever but every summer we would cut his fur off so he could keep cool and he would look much more like a black lab.Every christmas Smokey and the rest of our pets would get a present or two to last them for the next 3 or 4 months and every holiday they would get a special treat or meal as well.
We lived happily together as a family for the next 7 or 8 years until he got real old.He was almost 14 years old and over 92 in dog years. He could not walk up and down the stairs any more so each time he wanted to he would stand at the end of the staircase and wait until my dad carried him down or up the stairs. After a while like this we started to relize strange things about Smokey that were not normal so we took him to the vet and eventually found out that he was bleeding internally and we could not do any thing about it since we did not know where exactly the blood was coming from on the inside. We put him down a few days later and were sad for a long time.Everything was too different without Smokey. We all thought atleast we still have Spot,Jay,Abbey and Maverick but soon after we had to put down Jay and Spot down as well.We still have Abbey and Maverick to this day though.
We have lost alot of pets and some family members over the last year so atleast we all know that Smokey will not be lonely up in heaven and that we will have a huge welcome commity when our time comes. But until then we miss Smokey and everyone else dearly.
We will never forget you Smokey, you can never be replaced,
