Sugar by Cassandra Canada / Cassie

Sugar was more of a family pet than anything else. He lived to be 19 years old. He was as soft as silk or bunny fur, as gentle as a mother’s kiss, and as playful as a kitten. I remember him so well. The first time I saw him was the day I came home after my birth. I had never known life without Sugar. Sugar was the perfect cat. When anyone was sad, or sick, he would be in their arms purring.

Every time I was sad or ill he was there. I remember the month before he died. He had always been a good hunter, but that last month he was looking thin. I remember he caught a pigeon, and strutted into the house with a look on his face that clearly said “See? I still got it!” In October after he died, I found a stray cat that I named Pepper. When he curled up to take a nap, he looked so much like Sugar that I started to cry.

I miss you so much Sugar,

Love,
Sugar
