Tracker by Christal Thompson / Mom

For Christmas 1998 all I wanted for Christmas was a dachshund (a red girl to be exact). All my husband could find were a sterling silver pin for my blazer and a little black and tan boy. I fell in love with both. For the next two year I told him constantly that “Tracker D” was the BEST Christmas gift I had EVER ever received.

The comical little clown amused us all – from the Trix yogurt cup he retrieved from the trash can and ran from my husband with – it stuck on his nose and we all heard the licking sound of him enjoying the last bit of my son’s yogurt before Dad caught up to him – all the way to the last Christmas he enjoyed with us when the kids had left the plate of “Santa” cookies all iced and ready for Santa.

I was tidying up before bed (so Santa wouldn’t see the house a mess) and I turned around to see my little clown standing up at the end table on his back tip-toes licking all the icing off of the cookies (leaving the cookies themselves for Santa of course).

I can’t express how much we miss this little angel – we did go get another companion (Not to take his place – but to help fill the void) – He is a pembroke welsh corgi named “Scrappy”. He is comical and we love him too. But I am so thankful for the two years that he was in our life. On my desk, I keep a picture of myself and him peacefully taking a nap on a cold afternoon and wear my sterling “Tracker D” pin. (D is for Dude)

With all my love,
Tracker
