Zeke how do I tell about you?
Your strong will and zeal for life and the challenges that come with it
all combined to make you a very special creation from God.
Our lives were so much richer because you were in it.
We found each other when we went to the humane society
looking for an outside watchdog.
Well the one we were thinking of was gone but your owner had
just surrendered you it is beyond me how they could
but I’m glad they did.
Dad saw you sitting in that cage and you just melted his heart.
We filled out the adoption papers and the saga began.
It appeared your first family had abused you so I am
glad they surrendered you. You just a little bit of a thing but let everyone
know who was in charge well some of the time anyway.
One of the first indications that you had a will of your own was when
we would take you for a walk on the leash you were
bound & determined to walk yourself.
Another time you had decided to take a snooze in Dad’s lounge chair
and protested loudly when he came and tried to move you over a
little so he could sit there too.
Grandma Waak fondly remembers this speaks much of your
special charm the time she was puppy sitting for you.
She was working on a Christmas tree skirt and you were
amusing yourself. Soon you came charging out of the family room
ears flying bounded up onto & over her down filled couch
which would have been enough in and of itself with the remains
of her collector stamp holder hanging out of your mouth.
You knew how to get the attention that you wanted.
If you felt I had not given you the attention I should have you would
pull some kind of prank to get my attention.
You would either grab a sock and go running around shaking
it or get into the bedroom wastebasket and shred the tissues
and spread them around.
I couldn’t get mad at you for either thing because you just needed
some extra loving and you were satisfied.
Everyone who knew you speaks of how special you were and
talks about the antics you would pull.
Like how you would stand behind me looking between my
legs and get Marta going until she got scolded.
When you were the one that “innocently” stirred the pot.
We are sorry we did not take you to the emergency room
the first time you had trouble breathing.
Early December we found out you had congestive heart failure
and the medicine appeared to work so well at first that we took
it for granted you would be with us for a number of years yet.
But we had one more month and then you had another episode
of your lungs filling with fluid.
We don’t know how long you suffered that day but we tried
extra medication and prayed and waited until 10:30 p.m.
with very little relief for you so we called your doctor.
He said to bring you right in. In our hearts we knew we would probably
not be bringing you home the way we would like to but your
eyes told us you needed relief from your suffering.
So with much sorrow and pain in our hearts we released
you back to the Lord on January 10 2002 at
approximately 10:45 p.m.
God has blessed us greatly by your presence in our life.
Rest well little buddy,
Play hard at the Rainbow Bridge,
We’ll see you in the meadow,
Greg & Ann Waak Marta too
