Lucy joined our family in the fall of 1991, she was 6 weeks old and hell on wheels. My resident cat Squirt was not overly thrilled with a 6 week old wildcat that probably should have been named Taz and not Lucy. She continued to harass him til the day he went to the bridge. Over the years 2 cats and 2 dogs also became members of our family along with a husband!! Lucy never did bond with any other cat than Squirt and even they were not the best of friends. She was a solitary girl all her life. The dogs one of whom is a Lab would literally hug the wall to avoid getting to close to the Luce…she could be vicious with an open claw.
I don’t think she would ever have hurt anyone but she sure knew how to threaten. Lucy was not the friendliest cat either, she kept to herself allowing a pet now and then. She LOVED water and would drink out of anything that held water including the tub, the toilet, the sink, sprinklers…anything as long as it was water.
Thankfully in her 15 years she was never ill, other than the occasional ear mite now and then. I pray daily that the Lord will allow me ample time with my pets and when the time comes to call them home, that he would give me the strength to help them. I have promised each and every animal in my life that I would never hurt them….
and so far I have kept that promise.
Lucy was attacked by something and it resulted in an abscess, she also came down with a cold at the same time. The vets tell me that she just could not cope with both infections and they over ran her. When they did the blood work and called me, I knew it was not good. She was in full renal failure (her kidneys were shutting down). I could have spent several hundred dollars for IV’s to jump start her kidneys, but there was no guarantee that it would work. And it was invasive to Lucy so I opted to let her go…I made the appointment for yesterday, August 3rd at 11am. My husband went with me and I held her in my arms. No one told me that she would evacuate, her bowels were empty but she did empty her bladder and then she was gone….the vet told me it could take up to a full minute, but Matt said the needle was not even out of her arm and she was gone. She was purring, then was gone….
just like that. Gone. Forever.
God Forgive Me.
Lucy Forgive Me. I will love you til the day I die…please meet me at the bridge, I pray there are lots of sinks with water for you to play. Thank you God for letting such a wonderful creature share my life for 15 years….Forver Lucy, Forever….Sleep well Angel.
Every Star that winks will be from you...
