When we first met Toby it was because some friends got him
and brought him over for us to see. He was adorable,
only four weeks old.
He was a small wrinkly black fuzz ball.
He had been given away too young and needed alot of care still.
I volunteered to puppy-sit when they were at work or just
had to run errands. I feel in love with him right away.
I knew I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t help it.
I bought him a collar rawhides a toy and even thought
about what I would name him if he were mine.
I had to mix up formula and soak his food in it so he could
eat and take him out all the time. I even gave him his first bath
and took him for his first walk. I took his first pictures.
About two weeks after they got him there landlord said they
couldn’t keep him. They asked us if we would take him
of course I wanted to.
My mom on the other had never wanted a big dog.
This was a Lab-Rott puppy. She also wasn’t all that fond of Rotties.
I was so scared they would give him away and I would
never see him again. I cried quite a few times and told my mom
how badly I wanted him and even she admitted she had
sort of bonded with him.
We took him within the next two days. I was so happy.
He turned into a great dog. He was so gentle and loving.
He was smart too he could high-five shake hug and loved to sing.
He would sing whenever he was happy like at walk time
or if someone came home.
He turned out to be pretty big about 95 pounds at eleven
months old.
Sadly we didn’t have this gentle giant long enough.
Toby unexpectedly died eleven days before his first birthday.
We were with him and told him how good he was and how
much we loved him. Life isn’t the same without him.
This beautiful black giant changed my mom’s views so much.
She likes big dogs now even Rotties or mixes.
There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t think about him
and the goofy things he did.
He was our moose baby.
They say the best things in life are free and after having
Toby I believe that with all my heart.
