Act of Love”
By Dave Phalen
We hold you motionless in our arms
your white snout and matted coat tell the story.
There must be another way, a new
medicine perhaps or we can wait
No, the time has come.
Tear- lined faces kiss you one last time,
your eyes return our love
you seem to understand.
The needle is placed, you flinch, our hearts split,
then you are gone. Now you are at peace,
God bless. So painful, the ultimate act of love.
With Love,
