Basil James Bowman was a three year old Miniature Schnauzer
that my parents had brought me for my birthday.
The first time I saw him he was the sweetest little puppy.
My father named him after Basil Faulty from the TV show Faulty Towers.
I was 15 and he was our very first family pet.
So he was treated like a king. And that suppose ‘novelty’ that is suppose to
wear off in the future never wore off.
Basil had so much attention that he eventually got sick of it.
If mum isn’t hugging him its dad and if dad’s not hugging him it me
and this carried on through the his precious three years.
When Basil turned 2 we bought another black Miniature Schnauzer called
Shadow who soon after no time they became real buddies.
But everyone knew that Basil was still the favourite despise getting
another puppy. When Basil turned three we found out that he had
epilepsy as he was having clusters of fits.
He was then put on medication and was doing fine.
Everyone was really worried and my parents spent the highest
price just to make sure he was all right.
Even when he had to sleep overnight in a cannel my dad would
ask the vet if he could stay in the cannel with Basil just to
make sure he is alright.
Later on last year my dad got sick and we found
out he had cancer.
So everybody was upset including Basil.
10 months later my father died which therefore Basil had become
my mum’s real company. My dad always used to call Basil junior as he
believe that Basil was a junior of himself.
Then just this morning on 19 Feb 2002 my brother found Basil laying
on the floor not moving. My mother was screaming then I knew that
Basil has passed away due to a heart attack.
It was very out of the blue and we are all now still in shock.
My mother believes that my father has taken Basil with him so that he
would not be lonely.
Shadow is also finding it hard to understand why
Basil isn’t around anymore.
We know Basil you are happy with Dad and
I really hope we will all meet up again.
We love you Basil and Shadow is also really
missing you as well as all of us.
